Need a new skirt- like right now!

One day while we were in graduate school my husband called in between classes to let me know that he'd forgotten to tell me that we were invited to a fancy dinner- that night! Ahh! Of course I had nothing to wear and no money or time to go shopping!
Then I remembered seeing a few tutorials like this on pinterest that I'd been dying to give a try.
Turn a t-shirt or polo into a skirt!

Without nice material to work with I went diving through our closets to find something that could work. Matt had several of these work polos from his UPS days so I busted out my scissors!

I cut off the collar and sleeves but kept them for the ruffles and trim.
After trying it on and pinning it how I wanted it I just sewed up the side seams (closing up the sleeve holes) for the perfect fit!
Since it was a stretchy material I didn't need the buttons to be functioning so I sewed those closed as I hemmed the waist top.
I used this SUPER AWESOME ruffling method that took like 20 seconds. Basically if you lightly hold your thread and let it run through your fingers as you sew it will cause your fabric to ruffle as you sew.  You can control how much it ruffles by how loosely you hold the thread.  Saves sooo much time- no more gathering and breaking threads! Then I rolled up some rosettes, pinned everything how I wanted it and sewed it in place.

I think it turned out super cute! I wore it proud that night! Over the phone Matt was not happy with the idea, but as soon as he saw it he was really impressed! He told everyone we met that night how I cut up his old shirt and refashioned it into a super hot pencil skirt! I love it when he brags on me!
